TCM Corporation & Carpets Inter Launch “Orb Rug” Project (Phase 2)
TCM Corporation & Carpets Inter Launch “Orb Rug” Project (Phase 2): Transforming Industrial Yarn Waste into Handmade Rugs to Empower the Homeless in Nonthaburi
NONTHABURI, February 23, 2026 – Carpets International Thailand PLC, a subsidiary of TCM Corporation, in collaboration with the Nonthaburi Protection Center for the Destitute under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), organized a specialized workshop for the "Orb Rug" (โอบรัก) project. This initiative focuses on teaching area rug crafting techniques using recycled materials to add value to products and rehabilitate the potential of the homeless, paving the way for sustainable self-reliance.

More Than Just a Rug: A Symbol of Care The project name “Orb Rug” (โอบรัก) carries a profound meaning. It combines the English word “R-U-G,” representing the company’s core expertise, with the Thai word “Orb” (โอบ), which reflects the kindness, generosity, and "embrace" of the Thai people. The project aims to create a space of sharing where givers provide opportunities and receivers grow to eventually become givers themselves.

From Industrial Waste to Social Value Mr. Wissarut Sirichai, Executive Vice President of Operations at Carpets International Thailand PLC, stated that as a sustainability-focused manufacturer, the company seeks to manage colorful wool yarn waste from production. While this waste is typically converted into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) or bio-fertilizer, these high-quality dyed yarns still hold significant aesthetic and material value. By partnering with the Nonthaburi Protection Center—an agency dedicated to human development—the company can upskill a marginalized group while simultaneously driving the Circular Economy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Upskilling and Mental Rehabilitation During the workshop, experts from Carpets Inter (K. Kae, K. Ben, and K. Som) provided hands-on training covering color theory, yarn types, and various hand-weaving techniques. Beyond vocational skills, the activity fosters:
  • Concentration and Creativity: Engaging in the rhythmic process of handmade artistry.
  • Self-Esteem: Allowing participants to take pride in creating high-quality, professional-grade products.
  • Social Connection: Promoting happiness through collaborative work between the private sector and the community.
K. Wandee Pankoon, Superintendent of the Nonthaburi Protection Center for the Destitute, highlighted that this project fills a vital gap by showing residents that their skills are recognized by leading corporations, providing them with the hope and dignity needed to reintegrate into society.

Moving Toward a Circular Economy TCM Corporation and Carpets Inter plan to share the story of the “Orb Rug” with their network of designers and clients. This will not only promote the product but also encourage carbon emission reduction and social development through the support of meaningful, circular products.
